A common problem in the home, see our Easy Fix videos for further help

Why are quite a few channels missing on my digi box or TV ?

This problem is usually due to a lack of correct signal.

This fault can be diagnosed with a simple signal check at the end of the cable. Possible solutions would be to replace the cable or the tv aerial, or a combination of the two as necessary.

My TV picture breaks up and forms a mosaic (blocking) effect.

This problem is usually due to an insufficient continual signal stream.

A signal check could diagnose a possible fault with the cable, aerial or sighting of the aerial. Possible solutions would be to replace the cable or the tv aerial, a combination of the two as necessary or to move/adjust the sighting of the aerial.

Why does my picture deteriorate in bad weather ?

This problem is usually due to a fault with aerials, cable or the signal level being on a border line threshold.

A signal check could diagnose a possible fault with the cable, aerial or sighting of the aerial. Possible solutions would be to replace the cable or the tv aerial, a combination of the two as necessary or to move/adjust the sighting of the aerial.

Why does my picture deteriorate at night or when traffic passes ?

As signal levels drop in the evening, if the signal level was borderline to start with a reduction in signal levels would cause this problem, which would only happen at night or possibly during poor weather.

A signal check could diagnose a possible fault with the cable, aerial or sighting of the aerial. Possible solutions would be to replace the cable or the tv aerial, a combination of the two as necessary or to move/adjust the sighting of the aerial.

Alleviating problems with picture quality/break up

To alleviate the problems described above a good quality installation will cure 99.9% of any problems.

A good quality installation would require the following:

  • A decent line of sight.
  • A digital tv aerial of recognised quality.
  • Cable of recognised quality.
  • Correct connections to the equipment.

These should all be checked, measured and recorded so that the correct signal levels, carrier to noise levels and analogue signal levels are all present.
