If you have lost, broken or simply worn out your remote, you'll be pleased to know that replacement remotes are very easy to come by. Please feel free to get in touch so that we can help you with a suitable replacement.

If you are comfortable buying online then there are many replacements available through amazon or sites such as Espares see Espares remotes. While we don't endorse this site or make any commissions we do know that many customers have found what they need here and have been pleased with the service. Many other similar sites are out there.

Sky Remote Control

At the bottom of this page is an alphabetically sorted list of known TV Sky codes for use with Sky remotes.

An official code finder tool to help find TV Sky codes for use with Sky remote control handsets has now been made available by Sky. The code finder is available in Sky's Help and Support pages under TV > Help Articles however for your convenience we have made it available below.

Read the information about identifying your Sky remote and the different versions, then make a note of your TV make and model before using the code finder.

 

However, it is important to understand that, if you have the latest model TV, you probably need the latest revision Sky remote control.

Conversely, if your TV is very old, you may need an earlier revision (obsolete) remote! (An old remote won't contain the control information for a more recent TV set, unless that TV happens to use a standard set of codes for an earlier model - in which case you must use the number code for the earlier model.)

To determine the revision number, look at the label inside the battery compartment before you click on a link, below.

Before entering a code, it's a good idea to reset your remote, as follows. This will discharge the internal capacitor and wipe the memory:

  • Remove one battery cell (no need to remove both)
  • Press and hold the [select] button or any number button for 30 seconds
  • Replace battery cell

The infra-red LED at the front of the remote is invisible but you can observe it flashing if you view it through the LCD panel of a digital camera (or phone camera).

Identifying your Sky Remote Control Model

Firstly you may need to identify which version of remote control you have, versions that are dated pre 2002 may not operate the more modern TV's and a new remote control will be needed.

To see which version you have, open the battery cover on the back of the Sky remote and look at the text on the sticker it will state ‘Sky rev’ (or Sky+ rev or Sky HD rev), followed by a number, such as 4, 6 or 9. This number indicates the version of your Remote Control.

  • Version 1: August 1998
  • Version 2: December 1999
  • Version 4: May 2001 (Sky+ introduced)
  • Version 6: March 2004
  • Version 8: January 2006
  • Version 9: July 2011
  • Version 10: June 2014
  • Sky Q Remote: Jan 2016

Program your Sky remote to control your TV

Your Sky remote makes use of a special four-digit "code" to operate both your Sky box and your TV, meaning you can use just one remote to handle all Sky functions, to change the TV volume and to turn your TV on and off.

You'll need your four-digit remote control code when:

  • You set up Sky TV by yourself, without the help of an engineer.
  • You change your TV set or Sky remote.
  • Your Sky remote has been without battery power for more than ten minutes.

Look up your code online

To use the online lookup tool, you'll need to know the following three things:

  1. The version of your Sky remote: Remove your Sky remote's battery cover. Depending on the age of the remote, the details will be printed either on the removable cover or inside the battery compartment. Older Sky remotes may not display a version number, but you can work out the version number if you know the date you bought yours (a).
  2. The make of your TV: The brand name, e.g. Sony, Panasonic, LG, Samsung.
  3. The model of your TV: Usually a string of letters and numbers printed on your TV and in your owner's manual.

Tip: As long as your TV's make is recognised, you can leave the model field blank and select Get My Code to display a list of generic remote control codes for your make of TV.

Once you have this information, open sky's online lookup tool below to get your code.

I've got my remote control code. What next?

Once you've got your remote control code, follow these steps to use it:

  1. Cover the front of your Sky remote, or point the remote away from the TV.
  2. Press the tv button.
  3. Point your Sky remote at the TV.
  4. Hold down the select and red buttons together for a few seconds.

After a few seconds of holding down the buttons, the light at the top of your Sky remote should flash twice.

  1. Enter your four-digit remote control code.

As you press each number button, the light at the top of your Sky remote will flash once. As soon as the fourth digit is entered, the light should flash twice more.

  1. Press the select button.
  2. Cover the front of your Sky remote again, or point the remote away from the TV.
  3. Press the sky button.
  4. Point your Sky remote at the TV again.

Your Sky remote should now be able to operate normal Sky functions and TV functions. For example, try pressing the vol +/- buttons on the Sky remote to check whether the TV's volume changes.

 

What TV functions can I access through my Sky remote?

Once your Sky remote has been set up to operate your TV, you should be able to:

  • Change the volume: Press the vol +/- buttons.
  • Turn the TV on and off (standby): Press the tv button and then the power button to turn the TV on or off (standby). After turning on the TV, press the sky button to regain control of the usual Sky functions.
  • Switch input mode: Press the tv button and then repeatedly press the help button to cycle through available inputs on your TV, e.g. to switch to using a games console or DVD player. Keep pressing the help button to return to the input that displays Sky TV (usually "HDMI 1"), and then press the sky button to regain control of the usual Sky functions.

Not all TVs will support all of these functions through the Sky remote. If you get stuck, use your TV's own remote control to select the input where you watch Sky (usually "HDMI 1"), and then press the sky button on your Sky remote to regain control of the usual Sky functions.

The Sky remote does not support more advanced TV functions, such as:

  • Picture within Picture
  • Dolby surround sound
  • Nicam Stereo settings
  • TV tuning menus

These functions need to be controlled with your TV remote.

Alternative method for programming your Sky remote

The following information has since been superseded by the Sky online lookup tool above, however we have left it here for reference in case it helps anyone with older equipment or anyone not having success with the above.

Find the code that matches your TV make/model in the list below then follow these steps.

The 4 digit code is used to identify the make and manufacturer of your TV.
The individual 3 digit codes are used for each manufacturer.

To program using the 3 digit code.

  1. Switch on the TV set
  2. Press the TV button on the Sky Remote
  3. Hold down the select and red buttons for 2-3 seconds until the LED blinks twice
  4. Enter the 3 digit code
  5. Press the select button to store

Press TV and any number to test, If this does not operate the TV set try below.

 To program using the 4 digit code

  1. Switch on the TV set
  2. Press the TV button on the Sky Remote
  3. Hold down the select and red buttons for 2-3 seconds until the LED blinks twice
  4. Press the TV button on the Sky Remote again
  5. Enter the 4 digit code for your make of TV
  6. The LED should blink twice, if not recheck the 4 digit code used and go back to 1
  7. Press TV then the standby button on the Sky Remote (The TV should go to standby)
  8. Press select to store this setting

If the TV does not go into standby press the TV button then the standby button, then TV then standby, keep repeating this until successful. This will scan the codes used for a particular make of TV.

Programming the Remote to view Sky on an RF channel

Most installations comprise of a Scart connection from the Sky receiver to the TV (although newer and future installations use the new, much smaller HDMI connection). This is normally activated by pressing the Sky button for viewing Sky. For installations where the use of a Scart lead is not possible the Sky button on the remote can be set to instruct the TV to go to channel 6 (Or any channel that Sky is normally viewed on) and switch on the Sky receiver.

  1. Press the TV button on the Sky Remote
  2. Hold down the select and Green buttons for 2-3 seconds until the LED blinks twice
  3. Enter the program number for the TV channel which Sky is normally viewed on
  4. Press the select button to store, the LED should blink twice.

Now you only need press the Sky button to view Sky on your chosen TV channel.
